Green Up Day 2024
Thank You for Helping Keep Plainfield Green! The Plainfield Conservation Commission wants to thank all the volunteers who pitched in to make Green Up Day a success!
Between the Twinfield students and others who were out on the roads early in the week and those who came out on Saturday, we collected 2500lbs of trash, 68 tires, and a pile of metal that included mufflers, basketball hoops, a dog crate, camp chairs and more! Special thanks go to Chris Miksic and Mike Russell for providing their trailers and hauling all that trash away, to Stephen Pratt, Michelle Clark, and Gary Barnes for sweeping the roads for any abandoned green up bags at the end of the day, and to Julie Hackbarth, Anne Van Couvering, and Jan Waterman who took shifts at the trailer helping people load their trash and keeping a count of each bag coming in. Also a very special thanks to Becky Atchinson who has been the lead organizer of Plainfield's Green Up Day for years along with the rest of the Conservation Commission Thanks for your dedication to keep our community clean! What is Green Up Day?
A statewide day for communities to come together to pick up trash after the snow has receded. https://greenupvermont.org/ provides town organizers with special bags and resources to run the event each year. How Can I Get Involved? In Plainfield, stop by the Rec Field on May 4th from 10am-12pm to pick up bags and sign up for a stretch of road to clean. Fill your Green Up bags with trash and take them to the Town Garage before 4pm. Remember to bring gloves, good footwear, water and sunscreen, and check for ticks! Can I Green Up on an Earlier Day? Yes! Green Up bags will be available on April 19th on the porch of the Plainfield Municipal Building and inside Cutler Memorial Library during their regular hours. Please take only as many as you need, and hang on to your full bags to take to the Town Garage on May 4th between 10am-4pm. That way we can get an accurate count of how much we collected!
