There are vacancies on the Conservation Commission, Development Review Board, and Planning Commission. If you are interested in serving, you can snail mail a letter of interest to the Town of Plainfield, PO Box 217, Plainfield, VT 05667, or send an email to our Town Clerk or any Select Board member. Give us a call at the Town Office at (802) 454-8461 Conservation Commission The commission oversees the natural resources of the town by managing the town forest, the Conservation Fund, assisting with Green Up and other needs in the town. Development Review Board The Development Review Board is a quasi-judicial board (i.e., acts like a court) that hears appeals from decisions of the Zoning Administrator. The Development Review Board also reviews and makes decisions on applications for planned residential development applications, conditional use applications, and requests for variances from the Plainfield Zoning Ordinance. Hazard Mitigation Committee The committee has up to six member appointed each year for one year terms. The role of Hazard Mitigation is to gather information and to develop and provide long term recommendations to the Select Board to mitigate the impact of future floods and other hazardous events on public safety and infrastructure. Planning Commission The commission recommends updates to the Town Plan and amendments to Plainfield’s Zoning Ordinance. Public hearings on our recent update of the Town Plan will be happening soon. Revolving Loan Fund The committee reviews applications and makes recommendations to the Select Board for loans from Revolving Loan Fund. The fund’s purpose is improve the condition of historic structures, create housing, and improve the vitality of the downtown areas. Committee members serve 1 year terms. Social Concerns Committee Each November, the committee reviews applications from organizations seeking support from the Town and makes recommendations for March Town Meeting. These are organizations that nurture residents' health, educational, and welfare needs. |
5Elected Positions: The following are elected positions. Election results for these positions are available on here on the Plainfield website. If positions aren't filled by election, the Select Board will fill the position by making an appointment until next Town Meeting.
Towns, such as Plainfield, that elect officers by Australian ballot require candidates to submit a nominating petition signed by 30 voters or one percent of the checklist—whichever is less. The petition must clearly indicate the office and term length on the petition prior to circulating it for signatures, and the candidates name must appear on the petition exactly as it appears on the voter checklist (17 V.S.A. §2681(b), 2681(a)(3)). The nominating petition, accompanied by a consent of candidate form, must be filed with the municipal clerk no later than 5 p.m. on the sixth Monday preceding the day of the election. Nominating petitions may contain the name of only one candidate.
